Brittani & Africa : ]

Hello hello! I've gotten a lot of requests to keep an online journal so you guys can keep track of me while I'm away. SO, here it is, and hopefully I'll be able to keep updating while I'm off filling tummies and riding zebras (just kidding Mom). Thanks to all of you for your support and interest! <3

Plane ride, plane ride

WHOA, how the heck did August 20th come so fast?! Eve (the girl I'm going to be glued with the next 3 months) and I will be leaving Sea-Tac at 1:00 pm, arrive in Amsterdam around 7:40 tomorrow morning, and then hit Nairobi, Africa FINALLY at 7:20 tomorrow night. I don't know how I feel flying all the way to Europe with no layover in between .. is that possible? I don't want to think about that, I'm just going to think about how we get an actual meal on this flight. and how excited I am about the fact that I'm actually going. GEEEEZ :)

So just to fill you in on what exactly I'll be doing down there:
M, W, and F I'll be working in the restaurant the Kiwanis club of Kisumu started up. 50 kids with growling tummies will show up, and we will will be feeding them. Then on T and Th, we'll be teaching English to any kid that wants to show up. I guess in the beginning a lot of kids were skeptical about showing up, but then they really started getting into it, which will be awesome. They're out for the summer but come September I'll be TEACHING .. I brought some Dubble Bubble as a little motivation or to lure them in, just in case I scare them. Hmm, probably not, but either way, I've got gum! Then on Saturdays, Rachelle (the woman who is coming back to Bellingham for a few months), started an "Empowerment Day", with arts and crafts, snacks, games and counseling for the children. I'll be co-running that with Eve and I can't WAIT. I got a bunch of old soccer (futbol!) jersey's which I'll hand out, bright blue and yellow - yeah Bremerton! THEN, any of my free time I'll be helping out in the orphanage down the street which houses 50 orphans, which needs volunteers 24/7. WHEW, it will be great to keep busy .. 3 months is going to flllyyy.

OK, well time to go, I'll leave you with this nice little picture to give you an idea how packing went. Lots of restrictions, but I think (hope!) I got it all sorted out. Take care!!
